The Desert Rose, (Adenium obesum) originates from Eastern Africa to Southern Arabia and is loved by many for its bright stunning flowers and unique swollen stem.

They are more related to Alamandas, Oleanders and Frangipanis.  Desert Roses typically bloom for several weeks throughout spring and summer.

Variegated Leaves

Variegated desert roses have foliage edged or streaked in cream, white, or yellow, making them just as fascinating even when they’re not in bloom.

They are quite rare and we have limited stock, please email us or Call us on 0419 921 609 to place your order.

Desert Rose Care

The Desert Rose is a hardy succulent and is resistant to most pest and diseases. The variety of desert roses is vast with flower colours ranging from bicolours, to double flowers. We can graft different coloured flowers onto a single plant, creating a stunning centrepiece for any garden!

They thrive in hot, tropical climates and their ideal growing conditions include full sun and rich, well-drained soil.  They can be grown in cooler climates in a pot, so they can be moved inside when the weather changes but make sure to put the pot where it receives at least five to six hours of sun per day.

They are tough plants, but need to get the right amount of water.  If you give them too much, they rot and too little and they drop their flowers.  They can actually survive several weeks without water but may drop their blooms. Water them more regularly in summer and spring. Getting it right will produce lots of healthy blooms.

During the dry season in the Kimberley, water them every day when it’s cool in either the morning or the afternoon. Water the soil and not the leaves and don’t leave them in a dish as this may cause them to rot.

Fertilise with a slow release fertiliser every 8 months or so and a liquid seaweed tonic every fortnight.

Avoid sap contact with the skin and eyes and always wash hands after handling these plants.

Repotting

Generally Desert Roses need re-potting every 2 years in mid spring.  Re-pot to a pot not much bigger than the one it came from.

Once you have re-potted it, it may stop producing blooms as it devotes its energy into growing new roots.

Use a good quality potting mix with good drainage.
